Los Angeles Air Conditioning, Heating, and Plumbing Services
Los Angeles is too big to treat like one city, and if a company quotes you without asking which neighborhood you're in, that's exactly the problem. NEXGEN services homes across LA and knows the difference between a Westside property riding the marine layer and a San Fernando Valley home baking through triple digits with the same AC unit expected to keep up. We also know LADWP's water runs hard to very hard citywide, and that a huge share of LA's housing — much of it from the 1940s through 60s — is still on the original plumbing that came with it. That's the starting point for every estimate we give.
Whether you're in the Valley, on the Westside, or anywhere in between, NEXGEN sizes and services your system for where you actually live — not a citywide average. Call (820) 200-1614 for a free estimate, with 24/7 service if you need it now.
Built for Every Neighborhood, Not Just the Average
A Valley home and a coastal LA home can be ten miles apart and see a 20-degree difference on the same afternoon, which is exactly why sizing an AC system off a citywide average leaves Valley homeowners with a unit that can't keep pace. We size every system around your specific neighborhood's real heat load, not a generalized LA number. Santa Ana wind events add another layer — they spike temperatures fast and, during fire season, can push smoke and ash into a home's HVAC system for days at a time, which is why filtration comes up in a lot of our LA estimates.
Plumbing in Los Angeles
If your LA home was built in the postwar wave of the 1940s through 60s — and a lot of the city was — there's a real chance you're still running galvanized steel supply lines or cast iron drains that are decades past their expected lifespan. LADWP's hard water is working against that aging pipe and every fixture in the house at the same time, which is why the same leak or clogged line tends to keep coming back until the underlying pipe gets addressed. We run a camera down the line on older properties so you know exactly what you're dealing with before committing to a repair.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit to replace my water heater in Los Angeles?
Yes, in almost every case. LADBS requires a permit for nearly all residential water heater replacements under the LA Municipal Code, even same-for-same swaps in most situations. About 80% of replacements qualify for LADBS's Express Plumbing Permit, which can be issued online in under an hour — NEXGEN handles that as part of the installation.
Is LADWP water hard on my plumbing and fixtures?
Yes. LADWP's supply is a blend of LA Aqueduct water, imported Colorado River/State Water Project water, and local groundwater, and it's generally classified as hard to very hard across the city, though the exact number shifts by service zone and season. That accelerates scale buildup in water heaters and fixtures, which is why softeners are a common upgrade in older LA homes.
My home was built in the 1940s, 50s, or 60s — should I be worried about my plumbing?
It's worth having inspected. A large share of LA's housing stock dates to that postwar period, when galvanized steel and cast iron were the standard materials — both are well past their typical service life by now if the home hasn't been repiped. Repeated leaks or low pressure are common signs it's time for a closer look.
Why does my AC struggle so much more in the Valley than it did at my old coastal LA apartment?
The San Fernando Valley regularly runs 10–20 degrees hotter than coastal LA neighborhoods on the same day, since it doesn't get the same marine layer relief. A system sized for a coastal home's heat load will always struggle in Valley conditions — sizing has to match your specific neighborhood, not a citywide average.

Can't Say Enough Good Things
“My thermostat took a dive on me so I went to replace it. That's where I met Breanna at Home Depot she advised me on the Ecobee one and normally I don't use big companies because of cost is always higher since they have higher overhead. However, at $49 for a diagnostic they sent someone out and that's when things got even better Lazaro was our technician. He was trustworthy and communicative and effective at explaining to me and my wife what he's doing to our unit and why. In the end because of his demeanor and character I chose to get work done through his company. I got an ionizer placed and he patched a few areas where air was escaping. Cleaned condenser and added a second capacitor and cleaned the fan on inside of my house as well as checked the coils which were fine. In summary the company is trustworthy or at least my experience was good. At at a $49 diagnostic fee it was worth it to have someone come out and let me know where I'm at. Can't say enough though about Lazaro he sold me on trusting next gen so if everyone is like him you'll find value.”- S.S. -
Trustworthy Team
“My technician Joseph was a solid and upstanding dude. He took his time doing an inspection of my old hvac system. He let me hover over him and helped educate me on the different components of the furnace and AC units. He didn’t tell me what I wanted to hear, but he told me what I needed to hear. Would trust him and his team to do my maintenance and future installs for my home.”- Andrew W. -
Great Service!
“My AC stopped working and gave me a power failure message. Ryan was dispatched as the technician to assist. He was great, he quickly diagnosed the issues (fuses and capacitors). He gave me practical solutions and was great to work with. If I have issues in the future I will be asking for him specifically.”- Roger D. -
