Plumbing in Arcadia

Hot Water & Whole-Home Water Treatment, Handled Together

At NEXGEN, we help Arcadia homeowners tackle two closely connected concerns: having enough hot water during peak demand and controlling the minerals entering their plumbing. Our hand-selected, trained technicians install, repair, and replace tank-style and tankless water heaters and handle whole-home water quality under the same roof.

We deliver end-to-end plumbing, heating, cooling, and electrical solutions backed by quality workmanship and lifetime-backed products. Because we handle multiple home systems, coordinating related work in a single visit is straightforward.

Sizing a Water Heater for Your Arcadia Home

The right water heater must cover the busiest hour in your household, not simply hold a certain number of gallons. For a storage tank water heater, First Hour Rating (FHR) measures how much hot water the unit can supply during its first hour of use, combining stored water and newly heated water.

Two 50-gallon tanks can carry different First Hour Ratings because burner capacity, heating elements, and recovery rate all affect output. Our licensed and insured technicians evaluate household size, bathrooms, appliances, fuel type, and simultaneous hot water demand before discussing replacement options.

General starting points for tank water heater sizing:

  • Two people, one bathroom: Approximately 30 gallons as a baseline, depending on bathing habits and appliance use.
  • Four people, two bathrooms: A 50-gallon gas tank is a common starting point.
  • Five or more people: Homes with three or more bathrooms may need 65 to 80 gallons, two tanks, or a tankless system.
  • Additional demand: Rough estimates may add about 3.5 gallons per extra bathroom and 5 gallons for a dishwasher.

These figures aren’t substitutes for an on-site calculation. The goal is enough first-hour capacity to cover peak demand with roughly 10% to 15% in reserve. Undersizing leaves a unit running hard and wearing out faster. Oversizing wastes energy through standby heat loss.

Sizing a Tankless Water Heater by Flow Rate

A tankless water heater is sized by gallons per minute (GPM), the volume of hot water it can produce continuously. One user may need about 3.5 GPM, while a larger household running showers, faucets, and appliances at the same time may need 8 to 11 GPM or more.

Incoming water temperature matters too. Cooler groundwater requires a greater temperature rise, which can reduce effective flow below the unit’s maximum rating. We account for fixture demand and temperature rise rather than selecting a unit by its advertised GPM alone. Emergency water heater service is also available when a system stops producing hot water or develops a leak.

Whole-Home Water Treatment for Hard Water

Whole-home water treatment, also called point-of-entry treatment, conditions or filters water where the main supply enters the house. Unlike a single-tap filter, it reaches every fixture, appliance, and the water heater itself.

Some Arcadia homes receive water through Golden State Water Company’s South Arcadia system, which draws groundwater from the Main San Gabriel Basin. Testing for that system reported an average hardness of 9.4 grains per gallon in 2025, with results ranging from 6.4 to 12 grains per gallon. Those levels are generally classified as hard water, driven by dissolved calcium and magnesium.

A water softener addresses calcium and magnesium directly, while whole-home water filtration targets other quality concerns depending on the equipment selected. We can assess your supply, discuss the conditions you want to address, and explain available product protections before any work begins.

Trained Technicians & Lifetime-Backed Products

Our technicians are hand-selected, background-checked, and receive ongoing training. We focus on clear communication and completing work correctly the first time, with competitive pricing, price-match guarantees, and lifetime warranties available for qualifying products and services.

“You are always quick to respond, and your team is professional and courteous. Ben had to do some exploring to find the leak and he made minimum holes and fixed the leak.” - Colleen D.

“I researched to find a reliable plumber that would be interested to solve my problem rather than try to upsell me to something more. He did it without rushing through or trying to make it look like  a bigger job to upsell me.” - Jim E.

    Great Service!
“My AC stopped working and gave me a power failure message. Ryan was dispatched as the technician to assist. He was great, he quickly diagnosed the issues (fuses and capacitors). He gave me practical solutions and was great to work with. If I have issues in the future I will be asking for him specifically.”
    - Roger D.
    Excellent Team
“NEXTGEN repaired my HVAC system which had an intermittent heating problem on a timely basis and it was covered under warranty. The technician was very polite an professional.”
    - Mark R.
    Can't Say Enough Good Things
“My thermostat took a dive on me so I went to replace it. That's where I met Breanna at Home Depot she advised me on the Ecobee one and normally I don't use big companies because of cost is always higher since they have higher overhead. However, at $49 for a diagnostic they sent someone out and that's when things got even better Lazaro was our technician. He was trustworthy and communicative and effective at explaining to me and my wife what he's doing to our unit and why. In the end because of his demeanor and character I chose to get work done through his company. I got an ionizer placed and he patched a few areas where air was escaping. Cleaned condenser and added a second capacitor and cleaned the fan on inside of my house as well as checked the coils which were fine. In summary the company is trustworthy or at least my experience was good. At at a $49 diagnostic fee it was worth it to have someone come out and let me know where I'm at. Can't say enough though about Lazaro he sold me on trusting next gen so if everyone is like him you'll find value.”
    - S.S.
    Appreciate the Team
“Gabe was so efficient and explained everything so we could understand. He took his time to thoroughly look at all of our concerns and figure out some type of solution. I appreciate his taking the time with us!”
    - Carly N.
    Trustworthy Team
“My technician Joseph was a solid and upstanding dude. He took his time doing an inspection of my old hvac system. He let me hover over him and helped educate me on the different components of the furnace and AC units. He didn’t tell me what I wanted to hear, but he told me what I needed to hear. Would trust him and his team to do my maintenance and future installs for my home.”
    - Andrew W.
    Went Above & Beyond
“Ryan was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He took the time to thoroughly explain everything in a clear, detailed way, which I genuinely appreciated. He was clean, respectful of our space, and very thorough in his work. You can tell he takes pride in what he does. He went above and beyond, and his kindness and professionalism did not go unnoticed. Highly recommend.”
